FCCN Sunday Service Preview - "Reformation Sunday"
October 29, 2017
This Sunday Protestant Churches everywhere will be celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. A special celebration of this important date is planned for the service this Sunday.. You will not want to miss it.
Sunday will mark a very important anniversary in the life of Christendom in that it is the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation as it was October 31, 1517 that Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses on the door of the St Mary's Church in Wittenberg, Germany where he was pastor, that within weeks spread throughout Germany and fueled the Reformation. It all started over the Roman Catholic's practice of selling indulgences, or penance payments to reduce one's time in Purgatory, a state of the soul after death, prior to ascending into heaven. This un-scriptual teaching was going to fund the building of St Peter's Church in Rome. Luther was instructed to recant, but refused saying salvation was by "Solo Fide" or faith alone. He was excommunicated from the church and named an "Outlaw" meaning anyone could kill him without penalty. The Reformation soon spread to Switzland led by Ulrich Zwingli and John Calvin (whose theology fueled the thoughts of Congregationalists, Presbyterians, and Baptists. You might say the Reformation changed the Christian world and pioneered the faith Protestants hold today.
